About our Programs
Nalanda Study is a comprehensive educational platform inspired by the renowned tradition of the ancient Nalanda University. We offer a range of structured and accessible online programs dedicated to the systematic study of Buddhist philosophy and meditative practice. Our curriculum also explores the intersections between Buddhism, culture, science, and contemplative disciplines, providing learners with an intellectually rigorous and contemplatively grounded approach to knowledge.
Nalanda Study offers a range of structured online programs designed to meet the needs of learners at various stages of their journey. Our beginner courses — Introduction to Buddhism and Introduction to Meditation — are ideally suited for lower and higher beginners, including those newly interested in Buddhist thought as well as those seeking a more structured foundation.
For students with prior exposure to Buddhism, or those committed to the in-depth study of psychology and related disciplines, we offer extended multi-year programs at the intermediate level. These programs provide a systematic exploration of key areas of Buddhist philosophy and practice. They are particularly well-suited for individuals interested in comparing and drawing connections between Buddhism and other philosophical systems, scientific fields, or religious and cultural traditions. The curriculum includes:
Debate Course – Training in classical Buddhist reasoning and dialectics
Buddhist Philosophy – A comprehensive study of core texts and tenets
World of Mind Coaching Program – An integrative program that offers a modern psychological perspective and a first outlook into Buddhist understandings of the mind
We offer both: all our online courses include live sessions with experienced teachers and tutors, as well as self-paced classes so you can study in a way that fits your schedule.
Our courses are conducted in English or include English interpretation. We are also working to make selected programs available in other languages, based on demand and available resources. If you register for a course, you will be able to access other language versions as they become available.
Yes, students who complete course requirements are eligible for a certificate of completion.
The certificate of completion issued by Nalanda Community is not an accredited academic qualification and is not legally recognized by formal educational institutions or government bodies. However, it serves as a meaningful record of your participation and achievement within our structured programs. It may be valuable for personal development, continuing education, or as part of a portfolio in spiritual, coaching, or interdisciplinary contexts, depending on the institution or setting.
All of our online programs include 2–3 hours of classes per week. In addition, we recommend setting aside another 1-2 hours per week for self-study or participation in peer-led study groups. However, you're free to go at your own pace depending on your course format or individual schedule.
All of our programs are offered free of charge to monastics of any tradition. For lay participants, course fees for structured programs vary depending on location and are adjusted to reflect regional economic conditions. We also offer reduced rates for students and individuals with low income.
Our aim is to make these teachings as accessible as possible. If cost is a concern, please don’t hesitate to reach out — a dedicated option is available during the registration process. No one is turned away for lack of funds.
The courses are funded through a combination of course fees, donations, and sponsorships. To keep the programs as accessible as possible, board members and leadership roles — such as coordinators — serve on a voluntary basis. For long-term sustainability and to honor their valuable contributions, we provide fair compensation to our teachers, tutors/moderators, and translators.
